Marketing Tips to Make the Most Out of Mother’s Day
By Denise Prichard
Sunday, May 12th–what does that date mean to you? It should mean a lot since it’s never too early to prepare for Mother’s Day. Whether you’re the owner of a fitness studio, salon, or spa, there is no doubt that Mother’s Day is a seriously profitable holiday that you can’t afford to miss out on. In fact, the average American consumer is expected to spend about $180 on mom.
While there are many ways to help prepare your business for Mother’s Day, here are three tips that can help you achieve what truly matters–your bottom line. If you’re looking to increase your revenue for this special occasion, honing in these three effective promotions is key this time of year.
1. Moms love gift cards.
According to a 2019 survey conducted by the National Retail Foundation, 84% of US adults are expected to celebrate mom this year, with spending hitting a record of $25 billion. And of that significant chunk of cash, consumers are expected to spend $2.6 billion on gift cards for Mother’s Day. It’s a safe bet to say that your business could receive a pretty big cut of that pie this year since purchasing a gift card for mom is an easy and thoughtful way for a son or daughter to celebrate mom on this special day. Don’t forget to wrap gift cards nicely and promote them in email, on your social pages, on your website and in your business.

2. Get the whole family involved to celebrate mom.
Any mom will tell you the best part of Mother’s Day is getting to spend the entire day with loved ones. Try creating specials that focus on getting the entire family involved.
For spa owners: You could do a “Mommy and Me” promotion that includes facials, massages, or other spa treatments for two that can be done together.
For fitness studio owners: Establish a special Mother’s Day group rate to get mom’s loved ones all through your studio door this Mother’s Day.
- For salon owners: Create a bundle of beauty services mom and child can experience together at a discounted rate. You could throw in a complimentary glass of champagne while your clients get primped for a beautiful Mother’s Day.
3. Use social media to attract shoppers.
Use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms to run Mother’s Day contests and promote your specials. When running a Mother’s Day-inspired contest, you could create a bundle of products to give away or offer a free service/class at your business. People love to win things and offering a prize will encourage your social media audience to check your page out on a regular basis - which can help convert your shoppers into actual clients.
