3 Tasks to Delegate to Your Staff

Delegation is the key to your success (and sanity) as a business owner.
You can—and probably do—wear many hats as a leader. But, it's impossible to thrive long-term when you're stretched too thin.
Thankfully, you've already hired an incredible staff and can hand out day-to-day tasks effectively.
Doing so will:
Lighten your workload so you can focus on larger strategic initiatives.
Give employees more responsibility and the opportunity to enhance or learn new skills.

1. Social media

Social media is a simple task to hand-off to an employee.
That being said, your social media accounts are an important branding and marketing tool. So, choose your social media "manager" wisely.
They should be proficient with social media for business (spending hours scrolling doesn't exactly count) and well-versed in your brand's voice and tone.
Provide them with a copy of your visual brand guidelines (including your brand colors, fonts, and logos) as well as any design templates you might have to keep your account's aesthetic consistent.
As you start, set clear expectations. These include any specific social media goals, and how:
Many posts they're responsible for each week.
Much time they should spend engaging with other accounts per day
Customer issues/complaints should be responded to.
You'll probably want to use a scheduling platform like Sprout Social, HootSuite, or Schedugram, too.
In the beginning, make sure you have visibility into scheduled posts. That way, you can review the content before it goes live. As time goes on, ongoing approvals may not be necessary.
2. Your email marketing

Ongoing email marketing connects your business with customers and prospects and promotes your services.
However, sending out regular email blasts can be a time-consuming task. The solution: Delegate it.
Just like the staffer responsible for your social media, this person should be well-versed in your brand's voice and tone.
When handing off your email marketing, be specific. Outline expectations for:
The number of emails per month.
Topics to include.
Any goals you have, i.e., open rate, click-through-rate, conversions, etc.
Automated email marketing should be part of your strategy, too. Although these campaigns are sent automatically to customers and require little ongoing effort, it's a good idea to have your email marketing manager keep an eye on their performance. They can build additional automations and make adjustments as needed.
3. Your events
Events like open houses, pop-ups, workshops, and client appreciation parties are a fun and effective way to market your business and/or to improve retention.
But if you've ever coordinated an event, you know that the planning and execution is hard work.
Make your life easier, and your events more successful, by assigning or hiring a team member dedicated to putting them on. The right person will be organized, detail-oriented, and communicative.
Be clear with your goals and budget, and empower them to get creative. As with any of the above tasks, you'll want to steer clear of micromanaging and instead prioritize frequent communication.

Delegating tasks requires letting go and a level of trust. Trust yourself—you’ve trained your employees well—and trust your employees will execute. Of course, don’t be afraid to check-in regularly to make sure your team feels supported; doing so will build even stronger trust and communication.
